Advocacy and Referrals for Individuals

According to our primary mission, we at Chaplains on the Way are committed to providing spiritual care in the form of a ministry of presence, accompaniment and advocacy wherever those who are experiencing homelessness, living in transitional housing, are newly housed from the street, struggling with mental illness, or living with addiction are found in Waltham and the Metro-West area of Boston. We walk the streets and provide a presence at soup kitchens and day programs. We facilitate spirituality groups and lead prayer services and visit people in hospitals and jails.
Our current regular activities include:
Weekly presence in Waltham Tuesday through Thursday, including presence on the streets of Waltham and at:
- Waltham Community Day Center (WCDC), a non-profit agency housed at the First Presbyterian Church, 34 Alder Street
- Salvation Army, 33 Myrtle Street
- Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen (run by Middlesex Human Services Agency) at Immanuel Methodist Church, 545 Moody Street
- McDonald’s on Main Street
- The Home Suites Inn on Totten Pond Road where homeless families are currently housed
Weekly worship at 2:00 pm on Wednesdays in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church in Waltham, 34 Alder Street
Monthly labyrinth walks on the second Wednesday of the month in the afternoon (3:00 – 4:00) and in the evening (7:00-8:30). These walks are open to the public and all are welcome.
In addition, Chaplains on the Way is a field education site for Andover Newton Theological School (ANTS) and accepts students from all Boston Theological Institute (BTI) seminaries.
