Companionship Training Opportunities

Joan MurrayIf you are interested in training a group at your faith community in the Ministry of Companionship, please contact Joan at info@chaplainsontheway.org or 617-504-6877 for more information.

In the words of the Rev. Dr. Craig Rennebohm who developed the companionship model:

"Companionship is a way of being present with another person in the midst of struggle or suffering. Companionship is a relationship supportive of healing and growth."

The training describes the companionship model and offers an opportunity to practice companionship skills. Being companions within and beyong your church walls contributes to communities of caring and hospitality.

Welcome to Chaplains on the Way.

The primary mission of the Chaplaincy is to be in relationship with people who are experiencing homelessness, living in poverty, or living with mental illness or addiction, as spiritual care providers and companions through life’s struggles.

In living out our primary mission through presence, accompaniment and advocacy, we act as a bridge between those we serve and faith communities, schools, hospitals and social service providers. Our on-going relationships with people whose basic needs for housing and health care generally are not adequately met, inspire our work for systemic change, particularly around issues relating to homelessness, mental illness, and treatment for substance abuse.

Chaplains on the Way is a ministry of the Just Peace Ministry of the Metropolitan Boston Association (MBA) of the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ (MACUCC). We are committed to serving people of all faiths, as well as people of no particular faith. We strive to help people find hope and meaning in their lives, by helping them draw upon their own faith traditions and life experiences.

We hope you will spend time to find out about what we do and how to get involved.
